Freedom Worth Shouting About

Dear CGCC,

Chains.

What image came to your mind?

Perhaps you thought about computer programming, traction in the snow, or pulling a stump.  Perhaps your mind went to those who are in prison literally or figuratively.

Some chains are helpful.  No chain is helpful if we are all tangled up in one.  Physical, emotional, and spiritual struggles can keep us wrapped up. The result is a loss of the freedom.

We all have experience with chains (the bad kind).  Do you remember the last time that you were consumed with anxiety?  It sapped your energy, clouded your vision, and compromised your ability to function normally.  It was only for a short time, perhaps a few minutes or a few hours.  Then you did what you knew to do.  You prayed.  God’s peace filled you and you were free.

This Sunday we are going to see an encounter Jesus had with someone who struggled with chains.  Take a look at Luke 8:22-39.  You will see Jesus demonstrate his power over the natural world and the spiritual world.  His power overcomes the realms where we struggle.  Jesus shows that he can be trusted.

This Sunday morning we will answer four basic questions about the struggle for freedom in our lives.  How do we get wrapped up in chains?  How can we get free? Why do we sometimes choose to stay in our chains?  What does God want us to do with our freedom?

See you Sunday morning!

Pastor Keith
