Stewardship
What is stewardship?
Stewardship is a lifestyle based on the biblical belief that God is the rightful owner of everything (Psalm 24:1) and that we are stewards or caretakers of His world, responsible to do with it what He wants done.
All that we have and all that we are comes from God. He has blessed us with money and possessions, and He has given us specific talents and abilities. God asks us to use our money, our time and our abilities as best we can in ways that will benefit God’s kingdom here on earth. When we give tithes and offerings, it demonstrates our obedience to God, and shows that we recognize that everything we have comes from Him.
Christian stewardship can also been defined as:
- what we do with all that we have,
- using the gifts God has given us,
- to do the work God is calling us to do.
We live lives characterized by stewardship by:
- Wisely employing our God-given talents, human resources, abilities and relationships.
- Sharing the material resources we hold and giving them in service, justice and compassion.
- Providing for future generations, and in sharing a part of the life, worship and funding for the church and its mission to individuals and to the community we’re a part of.
